INSATS Accomplishments

September 2008: INSATS offices moved to Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast’s Workforce and Economic Development division’s new location on the North Campus at Carroll Hall.

August 2008: Conducted a site visit to the Greensburg Municipal Airport to promote the INSATS model and investment in the local airport facilities

June 2008: INSATS collaborated with the Consortium for Aviation System Advancement to develop the Transportation Transformation CD. This CD can be used by airport managers to educate the local government about advances in aviation that will impact the airport and generate economic development opportunities.

August 2007: Collaborative effort brought an airframe and power plant mechanics certification program to Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast in Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • INSATS identified the demand to train A&P mechanics
  • Ivy Tech funded research to confirm that market demand
  • Northeast Indiana Innovation Center conducted the research to confirm the demand
  • Ivy Tech developed the certification training curriculum
  • Fort Wayne – Allen County Economic Development Alliance and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership promote the commitment and skill base in their attraction efforts

May 2006: National Personal Aircraft Transportation Alliance (PATA) Meeting Held in Indiana

January 2006: Briefed Governor Daniels on INSATS activities & gained his conceptual support for the program

June 2005: Demonstration of INSATS Induced Business Activity Model in Danville, Va.

April 2005: Conducted another statewide SATS forum at Purdue University that included representatives from the Very Light Jet and Air Taxi industries along with NASA's mobile, SATS semi-trailer exhibit

September 2004: Staged an outreach symposium at the University of Notre Dame that featured renowned physicist/author, Dr. Albert-Laszlo Barabasi

February 2004: INSATS hosted the inaugural statewide meeting for aviation enthusiasts interested in finding out more about NASA’s Small Aircraft Transportation System  (SATS) technologies. NASA’s Dr. Bruce Holmes (the Father of SATS) joined Peter McHugh (the FAA’s SATS representative) in describing the technologies that will be demonstrated in June 2005 at Danville Virginia.

October 2003: INSATS sponsored a meeting in Fort Wayne to promote NASA’s Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) project. The presentation featured Pete McHugh, the FAA representative for SATS, who described how On Demand transportation will revolutionize rural travel.
